TWO Ugandan Cultural groups are in Zanzibar to take part in the 7th Zanzibar International Film Festival (Ziff). Activities of this annual festival will take place in various towns of Zanzibar.

The ensembles, Dynamic Adungu Cultural Troupe and Kampala Taraab left the country on Saturday (June 26). They will be back after two weeks.

Yvonne Adhiambo Owuor, Executive Director of Ziff, identified the two groups during her visit to Uganda, a few months ago. “We got interested in them because of their originality, energy and dynamic performances,” said Adhiambo.

Alliance Francaise has sponsored the participation of the two ensembles.

The Zanzibar International Film Festival was established in 1998 to promote a calendar of arts events throughout the year. The festival showcases the artistic talent from the African continent and promotes links between creative professionals and industries.

Ziff also promotes the screening of films and enables local, regional and international audiences to enjoy a diversity of films.

Various activities like music, theatre, films, dance and workshops take place during the festival (Ziff).

“We are happy to represent the country. We shall show the world the power and beauty of Ugandan traditional music,” Jimmy Adokwun, leader of Dynamic Adungu Cultural Troupe told Weekend Vision before his departure on Saturday.
