THE team headed by former head of Abataka (elders) Nadduli Kibaale is of opinion leaders and has not replaced Buganda’s negotiating committee with the Government.

Mengo minister for cabinet affairs Charles Peter Mayiga yesterday said the team consulted with Kabaka Ronald Mutebi II and gave their opinion on talks between Mengo and the Government.

“There is no new negotiating team.
The Kabaka is just consulting people because as you know these are trying moments. Those (on the team) are opinion leaders. They consulted him and gave their opinions,” Mayiga said on telephone.

He said just like President Yoweri Museveni sends emissaries to Mengo who are not part of the Government team, the Kabaka too meets and consults with persons who are not necessarily on his team.

“The Kabaka would like a peaceful settlement of these issues (Buganda’s demand for a federal status),” Mayiga said.

He also refuted press reports that Katikkiro Joseph Ssemwogerere was hospitalised in the US.

“It is false. The Katikkiro is alright. That is gutter press. I talked to him last night and he was well,” he said.
