CIVIL society organisations have expressed fear over the move to transfer National Social Security Fund (NSSF) to the finance ministry, saying it is a ploy to use workers’ savings to fund the ‘questionable’ hydro-power dams, reports Harriette Onyalla.

“There is a deeply-pervading fear among civil society that the transfer of workers’ money to the Ministry of Finance could divert it to funding ill-conceived dam projects,” a Makerere University don, Oweyegha Afunaduula said.
Afunaduula was recently presenting a paper, ‘Towards making World Commission on Dams (WCD) guidelines work in Uganda: A Civil Society perspective,” at the launch of the WCD report at Hotel Africana, Kampala.
