PLENARY proceedings in Parliament went live on Wavah Broadcasting Services (WBS) television station yesterday, as Mps returned from recess.

Opening the first live sitting yesterday, Speaker Edward Ssekandi said although WBS had offered to do the initial broadcasts at its cost, the UN Department for Economic and Social affairs would fund the purchase of equipment to enable Uganda Television and radio stations to relay the proceedings.

“This was a major demand by our constituents. It was an initiative of the house, which demanded a lot of commitment and resources,” Ssekandi said.

He said after some technicalities were sorted out, proceedings would also be carried on the parliamentary website.

The live coverage will run for the next five weeks till the Christmas season.
