FORMER President Godfrey Binaisa yesterday flew back home with his Japanese wife Tomoko Yamamoto aboard a British Airways flight for a formal marriage ceremony, reports Richard Komakech.
Binaisa, 84, went to the US last week to meet the 58-year-old pharmacist based in Columbus, Ohio.
The couple wed via satellite in August during a mass conducted by the Rev. Sun Myung Moon of the Unification Church commonly known as the Moonies.
School children from Blessed Nursery and Primary School, where Binaisa teaches, received the couple at his home in Muyenga.
Binaisa’s daughter Nakalema said, “We don’t need publicity. This is a family matter.â€
Binaisa married the Japanese in an international mass wedding ceremony in the South Korean capital Seoul.
The ceremony was attended by several leaders who converged in Seoul for the world inter-religious conference organised by the Church.
Moon, a controversial religious figurehead is famous for organising mass weddings each year.
Binaisa’s first wife Irene Marjorie Kabomoli, died in January last year of stroke-related causes.
