A RADIO presenter, Ali Ndawula, has won the Bamunanika bye-elections, beating his closest rival, Mukono resident district commissioner Deo Nsereko.

Ndawula, a Radio Simba DJ who lost to former minister Kisamba Mugerwa in 2002, polled 8,932 votes in the Monday elections against Nsereko’s 5,842. The seat fell vacant after Kisamba Mugerwa’s exit in July.

Ndawula, 32, a director of the Superstars drama group, has been presenting an afternoon show Gava Mukulya from Monday to Friday and Kadongo Kamu Classics programme on Saturday afternoon.

He said he was going to drop the weekday programme to concentrate on parliamentary duties.

“This is the right position for me. I will not miss the Saturday programme because I have reserved time for it,” he said.

Ndawula said he belongs to the movement organisation (NRM-O) and called upon his constituents to join hands to “keep Bamunanika shining.”

Other contestants were John Musoke Kayanja, Luweero DP General Secretary Erasto Kibirango and Dr. Elizabeth Lugudde.
