Greedy herbalists hinder progress

GREED for money among Lango traditional herbalists has hindered development of herbal medicinal practice in the sub-region, the chairman, Uganda Herbalists Association, Haji Lutakome Ssentamu, said recently.

By Patrick Oyee GREED for money among Lango traditional herbalists has hindered development of herbal medicinal practice in the sub-region, the chairman, Uganda Herbalists Association, Haji Lutakome Ssentamu, said recently. Ssentamu said it was important for the herbalists to cooperate and share the knowledge that they have to promote the practice.He was meeting herbalists in Lira at the St. Augustine Centre. He was accompanied by the Northern Inspector of Drugs, Zaid Mwondha. Mwondha warned the herbalists against administering injections with herbal medicine. He said it was illegal and anyone doing it would be prosecuted. He said advertising the cure of diseases like syphillis, diabetes, heart diseases, leprosy and cancer was prohibited.
