THE World Food Programme coordinator in northern Uganda, Ruth Butao Ayo-Ade, has warned volunteers employed by the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) to avoid corruption when distributing food to Gulu displaced persons’ camps.
By Dennis OjweeTHE World Food Programme coordinator in northern Uganda, Ruth Butao Ayo-Ade, has warned volunteers employed by the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) to avoid corruption when distributing food to Gulu displaced persons’ camps.Butao said the officers involved in the act would either be arrested and prosecuted or risk being sacked from their work. “If these volunteers employed by the NRC are proving a problem to disrupt our food distribution programmes in Gulu camps, we rather do without those who are corrupt,†he said.“That it does not affect our good working relationship of helping the beneficiaries of the food,†she added.Butao was addressing over 50 camp leaders and the LC3 chairpersons from the 23 sub-counties in Gulu district at the district Council Hall recently.The displaced people living in camps complained of corruption in the food distribution exercises done by the WFP officials in Gulu. the NRC coordinator and the chairman of the district disaster preparedness team, Charles Uma, was present. Uma promised to investigate the matter.
