Police Re-Instates Interdicted Officers

The Police Authority has re-instated former Police spokesman Bob Ngobi and the former officer in charge of the Police Quartermaster, Elizabeth Muwanga.

By Davis WeddiThe Police Authority has re-instated former Police spokesman Bob Ngobi and the former officer in charge of the Police Quartermaster, Elizabeth Muwanga.Police chief Maj. Gen. Katumba Wamala yesterday said, “they have already reported here and we look forward to working with them.” Katumba was speaking from his office at the Police headquarters in Kampala.This brings to four the number of officers re-instated after being cleared by the Police Authority.A fortnight ago, two other officers, Grace Turyagumanawe (formerly ACP Traffic and Road Safety) and Simon Wagama (Personnel Officer), were re-instated by the Authority after they spent a year on interdiction.“I was called last Friday. Please do not write those bad stories against me again,” Ngobi said yesterday.The four officers were part of 10 officers interdicted when Maj. Gen. Katumba Wamala assumed the office of Inspector general of Police early last year.Katumba was then implementing the recommendations of the report of the Judicial Commission of inquiry into corruption in the Uganda Police Force.The report was compiled under the leadership of Justice Julia ssebutinde.Police spokesman Asuman Mugenyi said the re-instated officers had been re-deployed to new offices.Muwanga is now the Acting Commissioner of Police in charge of Non-human Resources which include logistics, supplies, communication, transport and estates.Ngobi has been deployed as the Regional Police Commander of the newly-created Mid-Eastern Region, which covers most districts in the Teso region.Wagama is now the Regional Police Commander South Eastern Region based in Jinja.He has replaced Kimali who comes to the Police headquarters as Staff Officer in the office of the Deputy Inspector General of Police.Turyagumanawe has been deployed as Regional Police Commander Mid-Western, replacing Hajji Moses Balimoyo who has been re-deployed as Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations.Ends
