SIR—I wish to draw the attention of the government that primary teachers in Bundibugyo district have never been paid their salary arrears which should have been paid last year.

SIR—I wish to draw the attention of the government that primary teachers in Bundibugyo district have never been paid their salary arrears which should have been paid last year.A cheque worth sh172m, covering 94/95 to 98/99 financial years went stale and was sent back to the ministry of finance for renewal. It is now eight months since, and we are beginning a new financial year!To make matters worse, even the computer pay rolls of the beneficiaries were displayed on the notice board. Teachers were excited about the large sums they saw against their names and incurred debts. Now that the arrears are no longer heard of, the businessmen are on the teachers necks. On behalf of my fellow teachers, I request the ministries of finance and of public service to have mercy on us.Charles Mathe Bundibugyo
