KABALE district chairman Adison Kakuru’s nominations of an executive, have been unanimously approved by the council.

By Darious MagaraKABALE district chairman Adison Kakuru’s nominations of an executive, have been unanimously approved by the council.Silver Baguma, the councillor for Ikumba sub-county in Rubanda, was appointed vice-chairperson. Baguma is also a senior administrative officer at Mbarara University, based at Mgahinga and Bwindi impenetrable forests.Didas Kanyesigye, formerly the district vice- chairperson, was named secretary for education and sports, while Flavia Kanagizi was named for works and technical services.Others are Skyluck Kagoma, secretary for finance, Emmanuel Rutakyegyerwa secretary for health and Evas Bitwenda secretary for production and economics.The Kitanga catholic priest in Rukiga county, Fr. Geitanao Batanyenda was elected district speaker. He beat his rival by a narrow margin.Batanyenda, who is also the councillor for Kashambya in Rukiga, beat Sam Ndaba by four votes, when he polled 19 against 15.Batanyenda said he had been given permission to contest by Kabale Diocese Bishop, Robert Gay.The elections for the speaker were conducted by the Kabale chief magistrate, Gladys Nakibuule, at Makanga hill.Kakuru and Batanyenda promised to foster unity in the district council as opposed to the previous council that was characterised by wrangles.
