One of Uganda’s leading rugby referees, Frank Ochieng, will again this year officiate at the Safari Sevens tournament in Nairobi on request by the Kenya Rugby Football Union as one of several foreign officials at the region’s premier tournament.
By Kalungi KabuyeOne of Uganda’s leading rugby referees, Frank Ochieng, will again this year officiate at the Safari Sevens tournament in Nairobi on request by the Kenya Rugby Football Union as one of several foreign officials at the region’s premier tournament.“It is an honour for me and for Uganda to officiate at the 7th edition of Safari Sevens,†Ochieng said. “The more rugby is developing in Uganda, the more exposure we need in all aspects of the game, including refereeing.â€This will be the third Safari Sevens Ochieng officiates at. He has also been called upon by the KRFU to handle several crucial games in Kenya, including last year’s Kenya Cup final between Impala RFC and Harlequins RFC.A former chairman of Kampala RFC and one of the best rugby referees in the country, he has not been very active this year due to family commitments. The Ochieng recently got another addition, a girl, Amani, to their family, now of three children.Meanwhile, the national team for the Safari Sevens has been named. They are: Herbert Wafula, Victor Kalimugogo, Mike Wandera, Athiyo Mohammed, Robert Seguya, Geoffrey Mabonga; Simon Wakabi, Brian Tabaruka, Timothy Mudoola, Tony Luggya, Allan Musoke. Coach - Yayiro Kasasa, manager - Patrick Uma Tete and team doctor - Sam Guma.Ends
