ONE HUNDRED Acholi girls have joined Madera Girls Secondary School in Teso, State Minister for disaster preparedness Christine Amongin Aporu has said.

Chris Osekeny Jamu reports that Aporu was speaking at the 40th independence anniversary celebrations in Kumi Boma Grounds on Wednesday.
She condemned Joseph Kony’s Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) rebel attack rumour which has gripped Teso.
She said the army and LDUs had been deployed and armed to the teeth to deal with the situation if the attack occurs.
The rebels have reached Lira, a district neighbouring Soroti and Katakwi.
Aporu said 800,000 Acholi have been displaced by rebellion in northern Uganda.
She said the majority of the displaced are children. The minister, who had just returned from Gulu, advised the people of Teso to pray for Acholi rebels so that they surrender and end the war in which thousands of people in the region have been killed.
She said the rebellion in Teso started in 1986 at the same time with that of Kony in the north, but the Iteso were persuaded by elders, local and church leaders to come out of the bush.
“Rebellion in Teso ended in 1992 but it is now 17 years of Kony spilling blood in the north. Let us all denounce rebellion,†the minister said. She said peace was a prerequisite for the economic and social transformation of the country.
Aporu said the transformation of society was the theme of the day.
