Several districts have asked the Government to scrap the mailo system of land tenure, according to the views collected by the Land Alliance.
Officials from Land Alliance presented the proposals collected from eight randomly selected districts, at a workshop in Kampala on Friday.
The districts include Apac, Wakiso, Luweero, Kabale, Mbarara, Soroti, Kibale and Kasese.
Debate is raging on land ownership and viability of the four systems of land ownership in the country.
The four systems are the mailo, customary, leasehold and the freehold.
Some people also want the customary land system of tenure scrapped.
People who are agitating for abolition of mailo and customary land argue that they are retrogressive because they hamper access to and development of the land.
They said the land issue has become a problem in Uganda because of greed and politicisation instead of people looking at it objectively.
The land tenure debate is taking the country back to the drawing board when the Law Reform Decree recommended only the leasehold system of land tenure. Ends
