By Edris KisambiraTHE Libyan ambassador, Abdulla Boujildein, on Friday attacked the Makerere University senate for failing to come up with the final word on whether to award Libyan leader Col. Muammar Gaddafi an honorary doctorate of laws (PhD).Boujildein said awarding Gaddafi a degree plays in Makerere’s favour more than Gaddafi’s because he had received more honours than that which Makerere would award.“Makerere should not make awarding Libyan leader Col. Muammar Gaddafi an honorary doctorate an issue because he has more honours, and has done a lot to deserve them. What he has done is evident and there should not be debate on whether he deserves the award,” he said.Boujildein made the remarks at the International Conference Centre during a symposium held by the embassy to celebrate the March 2nd anniversary of the declaration on people’s authority in the Great Jamahiriya of Libya.Obed Kamulegeya, a former Mufti, repeated Boujildein’s remarks and said the senate is a group of individuals who detest the idea of African unity ushered in by Gaddafi.Makerere received the nomination of Gaddafi for the award of LLD honoris causa in October last year.Ends
