The Bokora Karimojong have rejected cattle that were recently recovered from the Jie warriors.

By Nathan EtenguThe Bokora Karimojong have rejected cattle that were recently recovered from the Jie warriors. Instead, they demanded that the culprits and the guns used in the raid first be handed over to the Government.A meeting between the Bokora and Jie leaders on Saturday at Kalosarich, about 31km on Kotido-Moroto road failed to convince the Bokora to accept the 1,344 head of cattle and 131 donkeys. The animals were recovered by the UPDF from Kacheri sub-county about 41kms northeast of Kotido town. The army also recovered 108 goats and 998 sheep. The UPDF 3rd Division Operations commander, Lt. Col. John Baptist Mulindwa, said the Jie agreed to hand over the suspects together with their guns before June 8.He said the meeting resolved that the recovered cattle remain under the custody of the UPDF until conditions were met. Another condition set by the Bokora was for the UPDF to recover more cattle raided by the Jie between December last year and April this year.He said the Bokora set the conditions after the Jie said not all the cattle recovered by the UPDF from Kacheri were from Bokora. He said the Jie proposed that the Bokora be allowed to screen the herd to pick their cattle and the rest be given back to the Jie.Ends
