Parents In Jail Over Child Neglect

By Angela Kamugasa A couple in Jinja have been imprisoned for neglecting and assaulting their four-year-old daughter, Rose Namaza.Namaza’s father, Semu Waitalo and her step-mother, Mariam Namuyanga of Bugembe, Budubuli allegedly denied her food. Namaza only weighs 9.9kilogrammes.The New Vision found her at the Welcome Home Children Center (WHCC) in Jinja where she was handed over by the probation and social welfare officer, Cyprian Kujuna.The O/C Jinja central Police station, Stephen Ojala Edopu said, “The parents were charged with assault and causing bodily harm according to section 228 of the Penal Act. They have not yet been sentenced.”Her caretaker, Irene Mukyala said, “When Namaza was brought to the home, she weighed nine kilogrammes and she did not have appetite. she has now improved.”Ends
