KAMPALA City Council (KCC) authorities yesterday shut over 200 more shops housed in dilapidated buildings in another major operation.

By Catherine NtabaddeKAMPALA City Council (KCC) authorities yesterday shut over 200 more shops housed in dilapidated buildings in another major operation.Food vendors operating from unhygienic places were also banned from doing anymore business in an operation that lasted over five hours.Mayor Ssebaana Kizito was forced to re-launch the operation after landlords of various untidy buildings in the city refused to renovate them.During the operation, Ssebaana, accompanied by his deputy Hassib Takuba , town clerk Gordon Mwesigye, health secretary Francis Lubowa and that for works Hajji Amis Bireke, was not only interested in unpainted buildings but also those without pavements, window and door shutters.“Our city looks ugly. We want to improve it. We informed landlords to renovate their buildings but they have refused,” Ssebaana said.Most of the affected shops are located on Snay Bin Amir, Nakivubo Place, Sikh and Market Streets, Namirembe and Martin roads all in city’s Central Division.Central Division chairman Charles Serunjogi, town clerks William Tumwine, John Gateni, John Higenyi and KCC technical and health officials witnessed the operation. The officials identified structures to be demolished soon.Ends
