By Norman Katende She Kobs coach Sam Timbe has taken a ‘no change’ line in his selection of Uganda’s team for the Africa Women championship qualifiers.
Timbe has gone for experience, naming a squad of only veterans of the 2000 championship campaign in South Africa for the final qualifiers first leg game due in Ethiopia on Sunday. Uganda failed to get out of her group in 2000.
“There was little time for the new faces to grasp the instructions. I felt it better to have the old guns on the team since they had experience and could follow the instructions easily. There are four new names that will join the team during the return leg,†said Timbe.
The team, set to depart tomorrow, had only four days of training.
The squad: Harriet Kayonjo, Francis Nalubega, Sylvia Nagawa, Asha Mande Sonko, Robinah Nakintu, Agnes Namatta, Rebecca Nakato, Oliver Mbekeka, Magidah Nantanda, Rebecca Nakatte, Rachael Babirye, Annet Nakimbugwe, Doreen Apolot, Rita Asimwe, Jane Nanjekye, Fatuma Luwedde. Sam Timbe (coach), Fred Mukasa (doctor), Deborah Sembatya (manager) and Alfred Mawa (delegation head).
r LIBERIA - Former World Footballer of the Year George Weah said on Monday he would be willing to assist Liberia again eight months after announcing his retirement from international football.
The former AC Milan striker, now playing for Al Jazira in the United Arab Emirates, said he would consider a return following Liberia's 3-0 defeat by Guinea earlier this month in their opening qualifying match for the 2004 African Nations Cup finals.
“If Liberians need my help, I’m ready to serve my country,†said Weah, who turns 36 next month. But he did not specify whether he would return to play or coach. Ends
