WHEN things fall apart, at least according to Chinua Achebe, what remains are just bits and pieces that may never be presentable again.
In fact the fall-out from such catastrophies is usually far beyond mending and inevitably turns out to be the outcast among local communities.
Interestingly, however, former Afrigo Band’s lead singer, Racheal Magoola, who is currently boasting of Uganda breweries (Bell lager) sponsorship, has
turned round the age-old tradition.
During the launch of her debut CD Tyenda wundi at Capital Radio gardens
recently, Magoola promised to sail the stormy waters with the support of her well-wishers.
Magoola and her band have lived by her promise and have of late grown from strength to strength.
The release of her sickler song in February 2002 may have been a blessing
in disguise judging from the number of fans it generated from the ‘sympathy-vote’.
Indeed, many of her shows organised during this year can attest to this.
“Magoola, with her band have organised what her home people in Busoga have conveniently dubbed a “Back-to-the-roots” show this weekend (Saturday) at TipTop Hall in Iganga town.
Since she is renowned countrywide for Obangaina, a song she sang while still with Afrigo Band, most of the folks in Iganga are whispering about the weekend with the Obangaina.
“It is the talk of the town. Actually the banners splashed all over the
place have done much publicity,” Hussein Kaaka, a resident said.
According to Kaaka, Iganga residents have these days developed a strong desire for showbiz and it is much stronger now when it is their own Magoola visiting the town.
“Some still believe she is with Afrigo Band and are already being heard
chanting: Abaana ba Afrigo batuuse (Afrigo folks have arrived),” Kaaka said.

Iganga Tip Top Hall located opposite the town council offices, has of late
become a popular stopover venue for local artistes since it is the only
place that can accommodate the biggest number of revellers in the whole of
Iganga town.
“Tyenda wundi okutoola ku ali mu Tip Top ku Saturday (I don’t like any other people apart from those in Tip Top on Saturday,” says Magoola.
So be there or miss out on Magoola and her band.
As a reminder to all, Bell beer will be in plenty so at least everyone has a reason to stagger home in the wee hours of the morning. Ends
