We write to clarify certain
assertions and correct some factual errors made
in the article.

Ralph Martindale & Company Limited, headquartered
in England and manufacturers
of the world famous
“Crocodile” brand machetes since 1874, acquired
The Chillington Tool Company Limited and selected overseas assets in May, 1998.

The Chillington Tool Company Limited is now part of the Martindale Group.

While we chose not to purchase the Ugandan assets in Jinja, it should be carefully noted that the sale and purchase negotiations required that the then owners of Chillington Uganda change the name of that company, and this was legally done in July 1998, when that company became known as The Crocodile Tool Company (Uganda) Limited, and was registered as such by the Registrar of Companies in Uganda.

All legal rights to all Chillington trademarks and intellectual property registered in Uganda and worldwide remain
the property of Ralph Martindale & Company Limited, and for the avoidance of doubt, no other company or person is legally entitled to use these trademarks
anywhere.

Legal proceedings will be taken to the full extent of the law against anyone infringing our trademarks or other intellectual property.

We can categorically state that The Chillington Tool Company in England has had no dealings with the Alam Group regarding the sale or purchase of the reported 80% of the Jinja assets of The Crocodile Tool Company (Uganda) Limited.

To ensure compliance with our extremely rigid quality standards, genuine Chillington hoes are exclusively manufactured by Chillington in Thailand.

These authentic Chillington hoes, bearing our “Chillington”, “Crocodile”, “Chapa A Mamba”, “Gonya”, or other registered trademarks, are of course still widely distributed throughout East Africa, and, together with our “Crocodile” machetes, will remain the quality benchmark for agricultural tools.
