ANOTHER robbery suspect has died in Police custody, reports Geoffrey Kamali
.
John Wawero alias Black, is the second suspected gangster killed by security officials after he was arrested on various charges, including armed robbery.

For months, Police and Operation Wembley agents had been hunting for Black, whom they said was the leader of armed city gangsters.

Wawero had earlier told the Police his name was “Black” but not the suspected criminal they were looking for.

He was killed by Police detectives at Kakajo zone, on Masaka Road on Monday.
He had led the detectives to one of his hideouts, reportedly to pick up a gun. Police said he was shot dead when he tried to escape after a pistol with six rounds of ammunition was found in his house. He was not handcuffed at that time.

In August, another ‘Black,’ whose real name was Patrick Kiwanda, died at Mbuya Military Hospital after he was arrested on suspicion of being the leader of city gangsters. He had torture wounds on his body.

Uganda Human Rights Commissioner Constantine Karusoke yesterday said his organisation was studying the circumstances that led to the suspect’s death before making public comments about it.

Kampala regional Police chief Ahmed Wafuba said, “When you shoot at a person who is running you may aim at the legs and instead, you hit the chest, as may have happened.”
