COL. George Igumba, the outgoing commandant of Jinja military academy, has advised UPDF soldiers to fear God and respect humanity when performing their duties to build public confidence in the armed UPDF.
He said the reputation of the army was eroded as a result brutal and indisciplined past armies.
Igumba was speaking during a party in Pallisa town hosted on Saturday by 47 UPDF cadet officers from Pallisa district.
He called upon the officers to be contented with their ranks and the attached salaries and avoid being tempted into acts of corruption and rebellion.
He urged them to champion the rule of law and uphold the existing peace that was a prerequisite for the country’s development.
Igumba, who was recently promoted, has been appointed director of training in the UPDF.
Pallisa resident district commissioner Geoffrey Kyomukama said the army was no longer a dumping ground for failures in life but an institution of disciplined intellectuals who plan for the defence of the country.
He urged soldiers to be polite and advised them to use friendly language when talking to civilians. Ends
