THE National Political Commissar and minister without portfolio, Dr. Crispus Kiyonga, has decried the rate of mob justice in the country, describing it as another form of insecurity.

Kiyonga said recently, “As we celebrate the return to peace in formerly rebel war-hit parts of the country, another type of insecurity in the form of mob justice is developing,” Kiyonga said.

He was speaking at Bwera Primary Teachers College following reports of mob violence in which some property was destroyed in some villages of Kasese district.

He said mob justice was rampant in many parts of the country, describing the trend as a primitive way of resolving conflicts.

He encouraged the use dialogue through elders to resolve conflicts. He said any conflict or disagreement which is beyond the powers of the elders should be forwarded to the courts of law. He said mob justice should be fought in the same way Kony and HIV/AIDS are being handled.

There was violence in one of the villages after the death of a resident suspected to have been poisoned.
