Another Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) commander, Sula alias Tabu, was one of three rebels killed by the UPDF in battles along river Mpanga in Kitagwenda, Kabarole district on Sunday, reports Moses Sserwanga. An unidentified UPDF soldier was injured in the fighting when the army engaged the rebel remnants that infiltrated the area a fortnight ago. The Kabarole District Internal Security Officer, Lt. Joseph Kabalega, told The New Vision on telephone yesterday that the UPDF 21st Battalion engaged a group of about 15 ADF rebels at Mayoro on New Year's eve. "I can only tell you that three rebels were killed in that battle and the army is still combing the area. One of our soldiers was injured," Kabalega said, but declined to give details. But security sources in Kabarole told The New Vision that the rebels, who were involved in the Sunday fighting, were part of a group of 60 who infiltrated Kitagwenda two weeks ago. President Yoweri Museveni last week told leaders from Kasese district that the UPDF killed 48 of the attackers, including one of their few commanders Henry Matovu Birungi alias Cobra. He warned that they would all be killed. Sources estimated that about 12 rebels were still on the run in Kitagwenda and the army's hunt for them had intensified. Ends.
