By Dennis Ojwee PRESIDENT Yoweri Museveni on Saturday appealed to the new bishop of Lango Diocese, the Rev. Canon John Charles Odurkami, to strengthen unity in order to have peace in Uganda. In a speech read by Vice-President Speciosa Kazibwe, Museveni said the Church of Uganda leaders must work together with the new bishop to promote peace and unity in the country. Kazibwe represented the President at the consecration at Canon Lawrence College-Boroboro Primary Teachers' College campus in Lira district on Sunday. Odurkami was enthroned second bishop of West Lango Diocese by Archbishop Livingstone Mpalanyi Nkoyooyo. Odurkami succeeded Melchizedek Otim, who led the diocese as the pioneer bishop for 25 years. Kazibwe, who flew to Boroboro by helicopter, said Museveni could not attend the ceremony because he was to travel to Tanzania for a regional meeting. Kazibwe (pictured right) also delivered government donations to the bishop but declined to disclose details. "The President told me that he might be mistaken to be campaigning," she said. Ends.
