Local clubs survive CAF wrath By Peter Ekarot THE Confederation of African Football (CAF) will not block Ugandan clubs in the continental inter-clubs competitions starting next month because of failure to pay fees in advance. FUFA secretary Godfrey Kisekka said over the weekend that after CAF's second deadline passed, Saturday, from the earlier January 31, SC Villa, KCC and Military Police in champions league, CAF cup and Cup Winners Cup would not be barred since most national federations had not paid up. "The ban would only be effective if 70% of CAF members are paid up. We shall settle the debt as soon as we get money," said Kisekka. CAF is demanding sh45m ($25,000) per association, which money would be used to purchase air tickets for match officials for inter-club competitions and Africa Nations cup qualifiers. Uganda hopes to use the FIFA advance of $50,000 (sh90m) to pay CAF and also pay up several debts. The money is expected anytime in Kampala. This is part of the $250,000 (sh450m) development grant handed over in a four-year phase. Villa faces Vital'O of Burundi and Military dates Zambia's Nkana next month while KCC take on Ajax Cape Town on April 8. Uganda Cranes is in the Nations Cup qualifiers for a group V slot to next year's final in Mali. Ends
