UNEB Forms Ready

By John Eremu THE re-designed registration forms for Ordinary and Advanced level candidates are ready for collection, the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has announced. The board secretary, Mr. Matthew Bukenya, told The New Vision yesterday, that headteachers can collect the forms beginning next week. He said the redesign was to make the forms compliant with the new computers UNEB acquired late last year. "The old forms were rectangular with squares for shading. We needed new forms that are compliant with our new computers and the Optical Map Reader (scanner)," Bukenya said. He urged the headteachers to ensure the forms are returned quickly since time had run out. The forms should have been sent out in March. Meanwhile, headteachers have demanded that they should be in charge of examinations in their schools if they are to be held responsible for cases of examination malpractices. The chairman of the headteachers' association, Dr. Peregrine Kibuuka said, "All headteachers condemn malpractices, but the Government should realise that the responsibility of examinations was divested from headteachers and given to UNEB. "You can't divest the responsibility from somebody and then hold him accountable." Kibuuka, also the headmaster of Namilyango College, was on Friday giving a vote of thanks to the Ministry of Education officials at the end of the S5 selection exercise in Kyambogo. Bukenya declined to comment on Kibuuka's remarks. Ends
