By John Kakande FORMER Attorney General Abu Mayanja has said he has never quit the Movement and is ready to work with President Yoweri Museveni to eradicate corruption and poverty. Mayanja, who is vying for the Mityana South parliamentary seat, said he had no role in the formation of the controversial alliance between Uganda Peoples Congress (UPC) and Kabaka Yekka (KY). Mayanja, speaking to The New Vision on Thursday, refuted claims that he has served in all the Uganda's successive governments since independence. He said he never served in the UPC regimes in the '60s and '80s. He said he served as minister only in the Kabaka's government, the Amin regime and in the NRM administration. Mayanja said he had never been expelled from the movement. He said he played a historical role in the Movement and was one of the NRM delegates at the 1985 Nairobi peace talks. He said he was only dropped from the Cabinet after serving for eight years. He said he was not too old to stand for a parliamentary seat. "I am not as old as Prof. Lule when he became president. I am not as old as Dr Kisekka at the time he was Prime Minister and Vice President and was saying many useful things," Mayanja said. He said it was not age that was important. "Some people run out of gas at 50 years," he said, adding that he was experienced and reliable. He says he wants to be in the next Parliament because it will deal with constitutional issues. Ends
