KAVC came from a set down to beat arch-rivals Kampala City Council 17-25, 25-10, 25-16, 25-25-14 in one of the week-long highlights that saw new FIVB tight shorts in use by the champions to the delight of the capacity crowd. KAVC skipper Alice Gitta, Harriet Tukahirwa, Hadija Namanda and Doreen Ekemu were outstanding as KCC collapsed with poor service reception. KCC captain Harriet Ssali, Mariam Musisi, Dorothy Nampiima and Rosette Meya however tried their best. Gitta overwhelmed with joy said: "We have come a long way and we deserved to be regional queens." Former champions Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) claimed their eighth title with five wins in the men's division. KCB came from a set down, to triumph over the technically impressive Ethiopian side, Mugher Cement Factory 32-34, 25-20, 28-26, 25-23. Mugher finished second after KAVC lost 3-1 to Kenya's GSU. Tanzania's Jeshi Stars got their first win handing Makerere University the fifth straight defeat. CAVB vice president and ECAVCO secretary Charles Nyaberi said Dar es Salaam hosts the 2002, 14th edition.
