By Gerald Tenywa UGANDA's High Commissioner to the United Kingdom Professor George Kirya has advised the Government to consider promoting bird watching because of the rare species in the country. Speaking in London recently during an award giving ceremony for Achilles Byaruhanga, a researcher, Kirya said bird watching would help Uganda to compete with her neighbours. Byaruhanga won the International Conserv-ation Award worth £5,000 from the British Petroleum Conservation Programme to study the Blue Swallow. The Blue Swallow is a globally threatened species. It breeds in South Africa and migra-tes to mainly Uganda and other areas like Kenya and the DRC. The envoy said the birds would attract more tourists to Uganda. "We should take advantage of the existing accessible roads linking Kampala and the habitats for the endemic birds," Kirya said. Ends
