THE Ntungamo Woman MP, Naome Kabasharira, has said she will defend herself against allegations that she used forged papers to attain a degree at Makerere University.
Kabasharira is one of the 12 candidates whose nominations for this month's parliamentary elections were recently nullified by the Electoral Commission.
In her first remarks on the issue, Kabasharira told The New Vision yesterday on telephone that she has a Bachelor of Arts (social sciences) degree.
"I don't want to fight press wars. I want to settle and respond to those accusations effectively.
"You (journalists) should write that I want to prepare myself and then reply...there are certain things I am doing to prepare the defence," she added.
"I have kept quiet (since the allegations came up) because I don't want my opponents to know what I am planning," Kabasharira said. Kabasharira who served in the Constituent Assembly and has been in parliament for the last five years, is to be investigated by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) for allegedly using forged certificates.
Documents available indicate she allegedly used the Ordinary Level results of Anne Asiimwe to join Trinity College, Nabbingo for Advanced Level.
She then joined Makerere using the same name.
