By Phillip G Corry STV and TV Africa will not telecast the English Premier league next season, The New Vision can reveal. The English league games will be live exclusively on MultiChoice's Super-Sport 1 and 2 channels. Multichoice Uganda Public Relations Officer Gigi Magezi confirmed that they had clinched the exclusive rights for Africa to show the BarclayCard English Premier League that kicks off on August 18. Magezi added that the deal was clinched early this year and all the games will be shown on DSTV and SuperSport channels. "I wouldn't like to comment on this one, but something is being done about the premiership. I can assure our viewers that we have a surprise package for them," said Eric Kamau STV's Sales and Marketing manager. Kamau added that they would be showing the curtain raiser of the new English soccer season 2001-2002 the Charity Shield, together with the Football Association (FA) Cup and the Copa Italia (Italian Cup). "We shall also be showing the West African Football Union Cup, the Africa Cup of Nations and World Cup," Kamau said. "We are going to look for network, regionally and local sponsors to sponsor the live telecasts," he said. Ugandan soccer fans, whose viewing preference is the English league, will have a disappointing season and will now have to dig deeper into their pockets to subscribe with MultiChoice's SuperSport.
