JANE Francis Kuka, the former woman parliamentary candidate for Kapchorwa district, has accused district officials of conniving with her opponents
JANE Francis Kuka, the former woman parliamentary candidate for Kapchorwa district, has accused district officials of conniving with her opponents to defeat her in the June 21st elections.
Kuka's perennial political opponent and former NRC member, Gertrude Kulany, won the elections with 5,323. Kuka polled 2,276.
In an interview with The New Vision on Saturday, Kuka singled out the Kapchorwa Returning Officer, James Onyait, the district registrar, Rebecca Ogwal, and district police commander, Stephen Ocaya .
She said the Returning Officer did not show impartiality as required by the law and that Ogwal tampered with the register which enabled some illegal voters to cast ballots in favour of Kulany.
She also alleged that the district Police commander failed to maintain law and order in most polling stations.
Kuka also questioned the role of the Kapchorwa RDC, whom she accused of failing to ensure security in his capacity as the chairman of the district security committee.
Despite her defeat, Kuka said she would work for the good of the area, especially against female genital mutilation.
"I'm used to losing. I lost in NRC and CA races but continued to work for my people?" Kuka added.
