By Peter Ekarot KIGALI Volleyball Club took home fond memories of Uganda, after they capped a thrilling two-day by winning the KAVC Founders Memorial international tournament. Kigali hit compatriots Butare National University in straight sets in the all-Rwanda final to grab the men's crown Sunday at Lugogo. It was fireworks as most-valuable-player Jean Luc Ndayikengurukiye orchestrated Kigali's claim to the title with fierce spikes for a 28-18, 25-20, 25-20 victory over Butare. The hosts got the consolation of winning the women's title. Kampala Amateur Volleyball Club (KAVC) blew off arch-rivals KCC 3-0 to reclaim the women's title they last won in 1998. Tournament's best setter Harriet Tukahirwa, best spiker Alice Gitta and best blocker Doreen Ekemu spurred KAVC to a resounding 25-20, 25-23, 25-17 sets victory over KCC. Chief guest was State minister and Chwa MP Henry Oryem who was accompanied by Aruu MP Otto Odong. Seventeen clubs from Uganda, Kenya, Burundi, Rwanda and DRC attended the two-day action sponsored by Nile Special lager, MTN, Dott Services and NCS. Young VC from Goma represented DRC. The Congolese hailed KAVC invitation, but complained Immigration officers made them pay $75 without receipts.
