Eastern upbeat for inter-regions tournament

A Reorganised Eastern region has vowed to win this year’s edition of the Inter-regional golf championship due at Kitante course this weekend.

By Douglas Mazune A Reorganised Eastern region has vowed to win this year’s edition of the Inter-regional golf championship due at Kitante course this weekend. “The selection has been done on merit and we have come up with a very strong team of 40 players picking them according to their recent performances,” said the region’s captain Alex Kobia. “We have also brought in new blood.” Karim Somani (h/c 7), Patrick Malungu (h/c 14) and John Mwalimu (h/c 20) are part of the region’s team. Kobia said members have been training regularly for the tournament sponsored by Kampala Casino. “I don’t remember when we last won this title but we are determined and I hope to break the jinx,” an upbeat Kobia said. David Waweru, Alex Opendi, Akash, Joe Singh, George Magombe, Henry Rudd, Ian MacNamara and veteran Martin Gwoke are expected to team up in the 18-hole medal play championship. Africa Online Uganda, Bamburi Cement, Nile Breweries and MTN Uganda are sponsoring the team. Eastern faces regular winners Western, Northern and defending champions Buganda. Ends
