THE Commissioner for Business Technical Vocational Educational and Training from the Ministry of Education and Sports, Mr. Henry Okinyal, has said the ministry has earmarked sh2b to construct community polytechnics.
Okinyal said this at a one-day consultation and sensitisation workshop on the implementation of community polytechnic programme at Lake View Regency Hotel in Mbarara.
He said the money would facilitate the construction and equip the polytechnics, which President Yoweri Museveni promised to construct during the presidential campaigns.
Museveni promised to construct one polytechnic institution in each of the 920 sub-counties in the country.
However, Okinyal told The New Vision on Monday that they will construct only one pilot polytechnic in each of the 26 selected districts.
“The implementation of the first phase of this community polytechnic programme will commence in March 2002. We shall keep on adding and updating another phase every year until every district is served,†he said.
Okinyal said about 300,000 students after primary seven are admitted in other institutions and technical institutions.
