Changes In ISO Set-Up

THE President’s Office has restructured the deployment of Internal Security Organisation (ISO) field staff.

By Frederick Kiwanuka THE President’s Office has restructured the deployment of Internal Security Organisation (ISO) field staff. New offices have been created and Gombolola Internal Security officers (GISOs) will now earn salaries instead of allowances. Under the new structure, the country has been divided into six regions, and each is to be under a Regional Internal Security Officer (RISO), who will sit at the ISO regional office. The regional ISO officer for Buganda for example, will be in Masaka. Those of the west ISO region will be in Hoima, while the one for South region will sit in Mbarara. A source in the office of the President said under the new structure, there will also be sector Internal Security Officers (SISOs) to support RISOs in regions which are too big. SISOs will be in charge of specified parts of the regions. For example in western region, there will be a SISO in charge of the area covering Kabarole, Bundibugyo and Kasese districts. Hitherto, there has only been the director general in-charge of the whole country, supported by District Internal Security Officers (DISOs) and their assistants at district, as well as GISOs at sub counties. The GISOs have hitherto been working on temporary basis, and getting only operational allowances. However, under the new system, they are to become permanent employees, getting salaries and are to be transferable. The source said new changes include new offices of RISOs and SISOs. Ends
