THE new Army Chief of Staff, Brig. Nakibus Lakara, has requested the South African Government to assist in training the UPDF, reports Grace Matsiko. Lakara made the appeal during the hand over on Tuesday of a consignment of exercise books donated by the South African Government to Kaweweta Army Primary School in Luweero. The books were delivered to the Bombo UPDF Headquarters by South Africa’s acting High Commissioner, Mohamed Ahmed Cassimjee. The school at Kaweweta is located at the camp which at one time accommodated close to 3,000 members of Mkhoto Wesizwe, the African National Congress’ military wing. “The UPDF is younger than South African Defence Forces. We look forward to training with them because they have a lot of experience and skills,” Lakara said. Ends
