By Edith Kimuli and Hillary Nsambu THE Country Director of AES Nile Independent Power on Wednesday denied being a boyfriend to the company's administration manager Ms. Harriet Kabayondo who is charged with embezzlement of over sh1b from the company. Kabayondo's lawyer Mr. Nsubuga Mubiru during cross-examination of Mr. Charles Christian Wright, in Buganda Road Court, said he (Wright) was Kabayondo's boyfriend. Mubiru said Wright decided to accuse Kabayondo after they fell apart. "I have never been her lover," Wright, who is now residing in the USA, said. Wright also denied that his company gave Kabayondo the money in order to bribe MPs and top Government officials to enable the company to take-off. Wright however told the chief magistrate, Mrs. Catherine Bamugemere-ire, that Kabayondo embezzled the money by transferring it to different companies, on fake payments. Kabayondo allegedly used to pay companies for work they had never done. The companies included, East African Surveyors, Byenkya Kihika and Company Advocates and Trade Without Borders. Wright who flew into the country to testify, also told court some of the money was transferred from the company's Pound Sterling account No. 4013748 in Barclays Bank to Trade without Borders. Kabayondo is said to be one of the directors of the company. Ends.
