FIVE people were by yesterday still admitted at Mulago Hospital in connection with the Monday incident in which a policeman opened fire, killing two people in a botched rescue mission in Ntinda, a city suburb.

The sixth victim, a woman, was discharged yesterday.

The Police said all the victims, who had been admitted with various gun shot wounds were in a stable condition, save for one who had been shot in the stomach.

The victims were shot on Monday as the Police attempted to rescue a suspected motor cycle thief from being lynched by a mob of boda boda riders at the Semawata-Ntinda road junction.

Police spokesperson Judith Nabakooba yesterday visited the victims and confirmed that they were in a stable condition.

“A part from one, the rest can talk,” Nabakooba said.

Police identified those in hospital as Joseph Kyakuwa, who was shot in the stomach, David Ssemuju, Moses Musisi, Abdu Sekimpi and Semwanga Godfrey, all boda boda riders at the Ntinda stage.

Mwajuma Namuwabira, a food vendor, who sustained a gunshot wound in the leg was discharged.

Nabakooba said the rest of the victims sustained injuries in the leg, thigh and neck.

She added that Constable Peace Njala, who shot at the mob, was interrogated yesterday and he recorded a statement.

Nabakooba also visited the scene of crime in Ntinda, where she had a discussion with the boda boda riders .

During the interaction, the boda boda cyclists accused the Police of neglect of duty.

They said the Police ‘just sit and don’t patrol’, thus contributing to the Monday incident, which they said was avoidable if the Police were doing their work.

Nabakooba urged the cyclists to desist from taking the law into their hands, saying two wrongs do not make a right.
