More security officers, medics test positive for COVID-19

In a press release signed by the Director-General Health Services, Dr Henry Mwebesa, out of the 3,758 samples tested on June 7, 2020, 30 turned positive. This brings the total number of confirmed cases to 646.

KAMPALA - Three security officers and four medics at the frontline are among the 30 new COVID-19 cases recorded by the Ministry of health today.

In a press release signed by the Director-General Health Services, Dr Henry Mwebesa, out of the 3,758 samples tested on June 7, 2020, 30 turned positive. This brings the total number of confirmed cases to 646.

The 30 include four truckers who arrived from South Sudan via Elegu border, one trucker who arrived from Kenya via Busia border, three security personnel from Luwero and four frontline health workers.

18 cases are from alerts and contacts to previously confirmed cases. These include four from Amuru, three from Tororo, three from Buikwe, two from Kyankwanzi, two from Arua, one from Buliisa, one from Wakiso, one from Kisoro and one from Kampala.

Mwebesa also revealed that 51 foreign truck drivers who tested positive for COVID-19 were handed over to their respective country of origin. These include 43 Kenyans, four Tanzanians, three Burundians and one Eritrean.

The total number of medical workers who have so far tested for COVID-19 is 22.  So far, 103 have recovered from COVID-19 and there is no recorded death.
