Govt suspends Kisita mining license

The Government has suspended the mining license of Kisita mining company over tax default.

According to the State Minister of Energy and Mineral Development, Sarah Opendi, the company owes government sh1.2b.

Opendi said this during a media briefing at the Uganda Media Centre in Kampala.

She said the ministry and Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) officials visited the mining sites in Mubende and Kasanga district and found the company mining yet it had been stopped in March.

She said during her team's visit to the sites, the Police Mineral and Protection Unit refused to give them audience.

The minister, therefore, asked the Police authorities to take action against the officials for allowing the company to mine.
