THE rehabilitation of Lango College will cost about sh10b, school authorities said.

Launching the celebrations to mark the school’s golden jubilee, the school administrators said the school’s performance had deteriorated due to poor infrastructure and lack of textbooks.

The chairperson of the old boys' association, Prof. Fred Opio, said by 1966, Lango College was the second-best in the country.

“The school started deteriorating in 1971 due to changes in government. “We have embarked on a fundraising drive to revamp the school so that it regains its glory,” Opio, said.

He said last year, they organised a fundraising function, but raised only sh70m, which was not enough to build a wood workshop, learning centre and dormitories.

Opio applauded the Government for kick-starting the rehabilitation of some structures in the school, but said a lot needed to be done.

The celebrations, which started on May 25, will end on May 25, 2012.
