Mukono municipality mayor Johnson Muyanja Ssenyonga and his councillors were sworn in last week. The function was presided over by the Mukono Grade One Magistrate, Robert Imalingat.

Ssenyonga (NRM) was the first elected mayor for Mukono municipality, which was elevated from town council status last year. He has been acting mayor for 11 months .

At the same function, chairpersons Jamil Kakembo (Mukono central division) and Erisa Mukasa Nkoyooyo (Goma division) were also sworn in together with their councillors.

Ssenyonga, who is to preside over a council dominated by Democratic Party (DP) called for cooperation and unity among the leaders so as to develop the municipality.

“My aim is to work with everybody on board despite our political affiliations so that we can account for our term of office,” Ssenyonga said.

He promised to build more roads, extend piped water and promote education in Goma division.

Local government minister Adolf Mwesige who was the chief guest, urged the leaders to plan how to develop the municipality.

He asked them to expand the industrial park in order for the Government to provide more funds to create industries which would provide jobs for the residents.

Mwesigye, however, said the development should be centred.
