Hannah, 87, died on Saturday at Nakasero Hospital where she had been admitted for many weeks.

During a funeral service at Namirembe Cathedral yesterday, Museveni eulogised Hannah as a hardworking, humble and big-hearted woman who loved her family and country.

The vice-president, Edward Ssekandi, who delivered the message from the Presidency, commended the deceased for having single handedly taken care of the her family when Lule died.

The First Lady and Karamoja affairs minister, Janet Museveni, delivered condolences from her family.

Mrs. Museveni disclosed that when she was in exile in London in the early 1980s, she often went to take refuge at Lule’s home.

“I got to know Hannah when we were in exile in London. Every time I went to London, I would go to their house. She was the most gracious hostess at the home and was so welcoming,” she said.

Lule was provisional President of Uganda between April 13 and June 20, 1979.

Lule was also the first chairman of the National Resistance Movement in 1981 when Museveni was vice chairman and head of the group’s military wing.

This followed the merger between Museveni’s Popular Resistance Army and Uganda Freedom Fighters which was headed by Lule.

Emanuel Ssendaula, said: “In Hannah, Buganda kingdom had lost one of its benevolent loyalists and advisor. She has been merciful, hardworking and respectful.”

The Prime Minister, Amama Mbabazi, said Hannah was hospitable and would greet anyone with a warm smile.

Mbabazi said by maintaining a stable family even after her husband passed on in 1985, Hannah had contributed to the stability of the nation. He urged Ugandans to emulate Hannah’s lifestyle.

The former prime minister Prof. Apollo Nsibambi, commended Hannah for educating her children in the absence of their father.
