A night for Ugandan fashion stars

The 2011 Afrikan Fashion Walk Awards meant to reward Uganda’s fashion and design talents was held at Cayenne Bar and Restaurant on Thursday amidst glamour.

The 2011 Afrikan Fashion Walk Awards meant to reward Uganda’s fashion and design talents was held at Cayenne Bar and Restaurant on Thursday amidst glamour.

 The Annual Awards for this year had not too many surprises as to who finally won in which category. A total of thirteen categories were rewarded.

The fashions night attracted talents like Latif Madoi, Kasule Raphael, Peruth Apolot and Brenda Maraka’s cloth lines.

The best designer, model, writer and TV Show were chosen by SMS. The person with more SMS texts automatically won.

Best Designer of the Year was Latif Madoi. The Media Choice Designer, Sylvia Owori; Lifetime Achievement Designer, Sylvia Owori; Most inspiring Designer, Sylvia Owori; Best New Label, Beribo (Becky Belic); Best Fashion Event was the Late  night shopping (Sylvia Owori); Best Bridal Designer/Atttire, Brenda Maraka; Best Fashion Writer, Keturah Kamugasa; Best Fashion Sensitive Personality (female- over 40years of age), Halima Namakula; Best Fashion Sensitive Personality (male- over 40years of age), Peter  Ssematimba; Lifetime Achievement Catwalk Model, Eve Mbabazi; Best Male Designer, Latif Madoi; Best TV Fashion Show was Omusono (NBS).

Although Sylvia Owori harvested so much in these awards; four accolades went to Eva Mbabazi who won the Lifetime Achievement Catwalk Model. Eva was absent but her nephew, Frank Kasyate received the accolade on her behalf.

Apart from the musical performances; the showcasing of bikini wear was so exciting. Guests got glued on their seats for two hours without visiting washrooms until the showcasing ended
