Mutaawe who birdied holes 13, 14, 16, 17 and 18 to card four under par 68 for an aggregate of 210—one stroke ahead of second placed Deo Akope. Mutaawe’s 15-foot birdie on the 18th hole drew cheers from members who were having lunch at the club.
“I should have even played better but the bogeys on holes No. 2, 6, 11 and 12 let messed me up. The battle on the final day will certainly be tough. Anybody in the top 10 can win the tournament,†Mutaawe stated.
Rwandan Jean Baptist Hakizimana was third while Kenyans Dismas Indiza, Simon Ngigi and Jacob Okello shared fourth spot. The four-day tournament sponsored by Tusker Malt Lager ends on Saturday.
