Uganda Boxing Federation (UBF) Moses Muhangi is worried that Ugandan boxers might struggle in the Olympic qualifiers

When Uganda took a full national boxing squad of eight men and five women for the Africa Olympic Games qualifiers in Dakar, Senegal in February, many hoped that many pugilists would qualify for the Tokyo Games.

However, only team captain Shadir Musa qualified for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.Other local boxers such as David Ssemujju and Isaac Masembe that didn't put up a good show in Senegal had a chance of taking part in World Boxing Qualifiers that was scheduled for May in France but was called off due to the ongoing coronavirus outbreak.

Given the situation, Uganda Boxing Federation (UBF) Moses Muhangi is worried that Ugandan boxers might struggle in the Olympic qualifiers when rescheduled owing to poor preparations.

"The outbreak of this pan-demic has affected us and it means that we can't get any funding from our partners and sponsors. Even National Council of Sports cannot release any funds since there are no activities at the moment," stated Muhangi."Even when this pandemic goes, there may be a conges-tion of activities and this will lead to challenges in funding besides fatigue," he added
