Herbert Achai was on target as KCCA earned a hard fought win against Police in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League on Wednesday at Lugogo.

The attacking midfielder found the back of the net in the 20th minute after a great pass from Muzamir Mutyaba outside the 18 yard box.

Achai's goal helped KCCA to return to winning ways following a disappointing 1-1 draw against Express on Saturday at Lugogo, a result that foiled their chance of closing the gap on Vipers who had lost 3-1 the previous day URA in Ndejje.

KCCA dominated possession with Muzamir Mutyaba and Gift Ali bossing the midfield.

The duo created chances for forwards Sadat Anaku and Erisa Ssekisambu, but they failed to bury their chances.

Police caused a scare in the last 15 minutes of the game as Safi Basani and Pius Kaggwa attempted to salvage a point for their relegation threatened side.

The attempts were, however, thwarted by goalkeeper Ali Mwirusi and the disciplined defence of Samuel Kato and Peter Magambo who cleared their lines well.

KCCA coach Mike Mutebi was not pleased with his team performance.

"I don't think we played well, but the character they showed in recovering from that disappointing draw pleased me alot. However, it  was a good result," Mutebi said.

"We are going to fight for every point in the remaining six games. Anything is still possible. We shall not lose hope of retaining our title until the lat game."

Despite the victory, KCCA is still is second place with 49 points behind leaders Vipers who are on 53 points.

Police on the other hand remain in the red zone on 22 points, one point behind bottom placed Proline on 21 points.

Frustrated Police head coach Abdullah Mubiru declined to give his postmatch comments and walked off the Lugogo turf.
